This mouse IgG monoclonal antibody was generated against human cancer cells and recognizes human epithelial cell adhesion molecule (EpCAM).
Highlights:
EpCAM encodes a carcinoma-associated antigen and is a type I membrane protein. EpCAM is expressed on most normal epithelial cells and carcinomas and functions as a cell adhesion molecule which does not require Calcium. Epcam may act as a physical homophilic interaction molecule between intestinal epithelial cells (IECs) and intraepithelial lymphocytes (IELs) at the mucosal epithelium for providing immunological barrier as a first line of defense against mucosal infection. It also plays a role in embryonic stem cells proliferation and differentiation. In clinical research, EpCAM is being considered as a target for immunotherapy treatment of carcinomas.
