This mouse IgG1k monoclonal antibody recognizes mammalian and chicken p53 and was generated against a gel purified p53-b-galactosidase fusion protein containing a sequence corresponding to amino acids 14-389 of p53 (derived from the pSV53C p53 cDNA clone).
p53 is a stress-regulated transcription factor that regulates cell cycle arrest and was first identified as an SV40 large T antigen-binding protein. Mutation of p53 is the most common genetic change so far identified in a number of major carcinomas. p53 is crucial in multicellular organisms, where it regulates the cell cycle and, thus, functions as a tumor suppressor that is involved in preventing cancer. Mutation of p53 is the most common genetic change so far identified in a number of major carcinomas. Activated p53 binds DNA and activates expression of several genes leading to unregulated cellular proliferation.
