This mouse IgG1 antibody was raised against Fascin 1 purified from HeLa cells and is reactive against mouse, rat and human tissue.
Fascin1 is an actin-binding protein, and crucial for filopodia formation cells, motile activites such as neurite growth and directed movement such as cell migration. In addition Fascin1 overexpression has been observed in various pathologies such as cutaneous and oral melanocytic tumors, esophageal squamous cell, hepatocellular and soft tissue carcinomas.
Cellular adhesion to the matrix glycoprotein Thrombospondin-1 triggers the formation of F-actin spikes that contain the Actin-bundling protein Fascin. Fascin is also implicated in cell migration by bundling Actin filaments. Fascin also identifies antigen presenting dendritic cells in the blood and in tissues and is a sensitive marker for Reed-Sternberg Cells of Hodgkin’s Disease.
