The Sendai virus is a single stranded RNA virus from the family Paramyxoviridae, that replicates in the respiratory tract and primarly effects mammals including mice, hamsters, rats and guinea pigs. It is highly contagious and is transmitted by aerosol and contact with respiratory secretions mostly among animals in the wild.
