This mouse IgG2b monoclonal antibody was generated against lipoprotein/peptides and recognizes Callinectes sapidus (blue crab) Apoprotein [Lipoprotein A (LpA)] fraction of Lipovitellin II (LpII).
Highlights:
The major component of the egg yolk of most marine invertebrates is lipovitellin. Lipovitellin provides materials and energy for the embryos until they hatch from the egg and begin to feed. Embryos of the blue crab, Callinectes sapidus, develop in egg sacs through a series of stages over 130 days at 28 °C. They emerge from the egg sacs as free swimming zoeae. Until they emerge from the egg sacs, the embryos are nutritionally dependent on lipids and lipoproteins stored as yolk within the eggs. The lipovitellin (LpII) of blue crab egg yolk is an orange colored high density lipoprotein with a hydrated density of 1.16 g/mL, a globular shape, and a sedimentation coefficient of 10.4 Svedberg flotation units. LpII is composed of lipid (48%), protein (50%) and carbohydrate (2%). Phospholipids, primarily phosphatidyl choline, comprise the major lipid class, along with lesser amounts of triacylglycerols and cholesterol, and a non-covalently bound carotenoid that gives lipovitellin a characteristic yellow color. The protein moiety is composed of two apoproteins, referred to as Protein A [107 kilodaltons (kDa)] and Protein B (78 kDa).
