This mouse IgG1 monoclonal antibody was generated against herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) capsids and recognizes HSV-1 capsid protein VP5.

Herpes simplex virus is widespread in the human population with most people exposed during childhood. HSV-1 is best-known as the etiological agent of cold sores and genital lesions, but it also causes a stromal ketatitis, disseminated disease in the newborn and encephalitis in adults People who become infected with HSV will have the virus for the rest of their lives.
