Canine Osteosarcoma Cell Line (OSCA-29)

OSCA-29 is a canine osteosarcoma cell line derived from a primary tumor in the right front leg of a 6-year old female Rottweiler.

Highlights:

  • Gene expression profile is consistent with that observed in more aggressive molecular phenotype of osteosarcoma
  • Tumor also showed aggressive behavior in the original dog patient, eventually metastasizing to the brain

Osteosarcomas are aggressive malignant neoplasia that arise from primitive transformed cells of mesenchymal origin (and thus a sarcoma) and exhibit osteoblastic differentiation and produce malignant osteoid.
