The 143B rho-0#41 cell line is a derivative of the 143B human osteosarcoma cells, which have lost their mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) as a result of transient transfection with plasmid pMA4008 encoding HSV UL12.5M185 protein, which damages mtDNA by an unknown mechanism.
