Complement C1s Proenzyme

Complement C1s proenzyme expressed in E. Coli.

C1s proenzyme is activated when the C1 complex binds to and is activated by antibodies bound to antigens (immune complexes) yielding C1r enzyme, the first protease that initiates the cascade. C1r enzyme in the C1 complex activates C1s proenzyme generating C1s enzyme. The activated C1s protease of the classical complement pathway propagates the initial activation of this pathway of the system by cleaving and thereby activating the C4 and C2 complement components. This facilitates the formation of the classical pathway C3 convertase (C4bC2a).
