- MD: Muscular Dystrophy - The MD line represents avian muscular dystrophy.
- LSN: Low Score Normal - The LSN chicken line was developed from an outcross of the MD birds. LSN birds have reduced function of the pectoralis major muscle due to high collagen crosslinking levels, lower satellite cell proliferation and differentiation, and high expression the proteoglycan decorin at the time of hatch. Some researchers believe that the changes exhibited in the LSN pectoralis major muscle are a precursor to the Wooden Breast myopathy.
