This mouse IgG2a monoclonal antibody was generated against a3 domain of H2Kd and recognizes the a3 domain of mouse H-2Kd MHC class I.

MHC Class I H-2 Kd is involved in the presentation of foreign antigens to the immune system. The “classical” MHC Class I molecules are histocompatibility antigens encoded by the H-2 gene complex and consist of heterodimers of highly polymorphic alpha chains noncovalently associated with the invariant Beta2-microglobulin. These antigens are expressed on most nucleated cells, but expression varies on different cell types. MHC Class I molecules present intracellular processed peptides to CD8+ T lymphocytes, which are usually cytotoxic T cells. This results in a cytoxic effector response against the presenting cell. Additionally, MHC Class I antigens are expressed on thymic epithelial cells, which is an important regulation step during the positive and negative selection of CD8+ T cells during T cell ontogeny.
