Western Equine encephalitis is a mosquito-transmitted viral infections that may progress to acute inflammation of the brain parenchyma and meninges. It is caused by an Alphavirus, which is spread primarily by the bite mosquito. Most symtpoms include fever, headache, stiff neck, vomiting, or weakness and some cases of encephalitis. WEEV is closely related to Venezuelan equine encephalitis virus (VEEV) and Eastern equine encephalitis virus (EEEV).
