Immunoglobulin E is an antibody only found in mammals and its main function is immunity against parasites. IgE also has an essential role in type I hypersensitivity, such as allergic asthma, sinusitis, allergic rhinitis, food allergies, and specific types of chronic urticaria and atopic dermatitis.
